FARMINGTON — A Utah Department of Transportation worker fell about 20 feet while working on a Legacy Highway overpass in Farmington early Tuesday afternoon.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, injured his leg and spine in the accident at about 4:40 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jarod Babcock.

Officials did not know the extent of the injuries. The man was flown to University Hospital, UDOT spokesman Adan Carrillo said.

Babcock, the second person on the scene, said he was not sure what caused the man to fall.

A team from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the cause of the accident, Carrillo said.

"We'll cooperate with them to make sure it doesn't happen again," he said.
