TAYLOR WOODRUFF, Wasatch, boys basketball: The Wasps have won four of their last five games, and the play of this athletic senior guard is a big reason why.

Woodruff scored 14 points Wednesday in a 75-56 victory over North Sanpete, and then followed it up two days later with a 25-point performance in a 67-38 rout of Waterford in the Region 10 opener.

At 14.0 ppg, Woodruff is among the leading scorers in 3A for the 6-5 Wasps, who host Judge in a critical league game tonight.

RACHEL SPENCER, Olympus, swimming: Because of her previous experience in Olympus' age-group program, much was expected of this talented freshman at the onset of the 2007-08 prep swim season.

Not only has Spencer met those expectations, however, she's shattered them.

With a month to go until the 4A state meet, the highly competitive youngster has top-six times in four of the eight individual events and is very balanced across all of them.

"We thought she would be pretty good," said coach Brad Goffe, "but she's really kind of blossomed in high school swimming."

Besides being an outstanding student, Goffe said Spencer rounds out her schedule by participating in activities like drama and choir.

"She's surprisingly well-balanced," he said.
