In the Republican portion of the Saturday night debates, Ron Paul made an important point that sailed over the heads of his opponents and the moderators. He said that an important component of the rising cost of oil is the deteriorating dollar, occasioned — in large part — by our heavy military expenditures. He noted that the price of oil in euros has risen by half of the dollar rate, and the cost in gold hasn't risen at all. The public needs to understand the link between economic conditions to oil prices and, in turn, to our interventionist foreign policy.
