David A. Erickson (Readers' Forum, Jan. 3) purports that the LDS Church prohibits the consumption of decaffeinated coffee but allows cold caffeinated sodas for a temple recommend. My perception is the church teaches that members should not consume substances that are harmful, addictive or habit-forming unless under the supervision of a qualified medical professional. To make a list of all possible substances for that definition is not necessary. Wisdom should dictate an understanding of the Word of Wisdom.
