A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car Wednesday morning in a Salt Lake intersection.
Police said the man, 64, was in the crosswalk at 1000 N. 1400 West about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.
"He gets part way across the crosswalk, decides to turn around and go southbound," Salt Lake City police detective Jeff Bedard said. "He gets hit by a car who then flees the scene."
The man, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital in critical condition with numerous broken bones in the leg and pelvis area. Witnesses told police the car that hit the man is a 2000 to 2003 brown, four-door Toyota Camry with Ski Utah plates. The vehicle is believed to have damage to the grill and windshield.
"Our priority, now that we've helped the victim, is tracking down the driver and the vehicle," Bedard said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000.
