CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

San Diego State's Billy White and UNLV's Wink Adams were named Mountain West Conference co-players of the week.

White, a freshman from Las Vegas, helped lead the Aztecs to a 79-78 overtime win over previously unbeaten Sam Houston State last Friday. White scored 12 points, on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, and collected 12 rebounds in 29 minutes of play. He scored 10 of his points in the second half. White forced overtime with an offensive put-back with :00.2 left in regulation and scored the game-winning basket on an offensive rebound and put-back with 15 seconds remaining in OT. It marked the first time in school history that an Aztec player made a shot to send a game into overtime and hit a game-winner in the same contest.

Adams, a junior from Houston, Texas, led the Rebels to a 3-0 record and the Duel in the Desert Tournament championship last week. Adams earned tournament MVP honors after scoring an average of 15.3 points, dishing out 14 assists and collecting seven steals.

CONFERENCE OPENERS:

MWC play opens Saturday with four games — New Mexico at Wyoming (CSTV); Air Force at Utah; UNLV at Colorado State and TCU at San Diego State. Those latter three games will be shown as part of a triple-header on The mtn.

BYU opens conference play on Jan. 12 at home against CSU.

A DECEMBER TO REMEMBER:

Perhaps no player in the MWC was better in December than BYU's Lee Cummard.

The junior guard averaged 21.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 2.3 blocks and 2.0 steals in his last four games. During that stretch, Cummard shot 67.3 percent (33-for-49) from the floor, 47.3 percent (9-for-19) from 3-point territory and 91.7 percent (11-for-12) from the free throw line. From two-point range, Cummard shot 80 percent from the floor in those four games. He nearly recorded a triple-double in a win over Lamar.
