SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Johnnie Bryant scored 17 points, including a rare four-point play down the stretch, to lift the Utah Utes to a 68-51 victory over Idaho State on Thursday night.
It was the sixth win in seven games for the Utes(8-3).
The Utes led just 38-37 midway through the second half they missed a dozen straight 3-point attempts against the Bengals zone at one point but erupted with an 11-0 run that allowed them to pull away.
Bryant, Lawrence Borha and Shaun Green all hit 3-pointers during the run, sandwiched around a steal and fast-break lay-up by teammate Luka Drca.
Luke Nevill added 14 points and six rebounds for the Utes, while Shaun Green had 12 points. The Utes also made 20 of 26 free throws.
Demetrius Morgan scored 17 points for Idaho State (2-9), but the Bengals shot just 4-for-15 from 3-point range. They were still within eight points, 52-44, before Lucas Steijn fouled Bryant as he buried a 3-pointer from the angle with 4:47 left. Bryant made his free throw to push the lead to 56-44, and the Bengals never threatened again.
The Bengals jumped to a 9-3 lead by making their first four shots in the opening minutes, but made just 3 of their next 14 shots as the game turned sloppy. The teams combined for 27 turnovers.
