If you're planning to leave work early to get a jump start on the Christmas holiday, now is the time to leave.

"Most of the action's going to be here late this afternoon and early this evening," said meteorologist Mike Conger at the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City. "Our radar is pretty well full of precipitation."

Storms are moving over the Great Salt Lake, bringing with them the potential for a lot of snow. The NWS has issued a heavy snow warning for the Wasatch Front, with accumulations of more than 8 inches possible.

Lake-effect snow is expected to be the biggest factor, hitting the area this evening. Statewide, a blowing snow advisory has been issued from Logan to Beaver, with authorities urging caution as people travel.
