A man who apparently robbed a check-cashing business in Cottonwood Heights didn't get too far Thursday night.

About 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a man reportedly walked into Check City, 6975 S. Highland Drive, claiming he had a box cutter in his hand.

"He said, 'I need your money,"' said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Paul Jaroscak.

One clerk gave the man a small amount of money while the other clerk, unnoticed by the robber, called 911, Jaroscak said. The man left the store, but by the time he walked across the street to a gas station, deputies were on the scene, spotted him and arrested him, he said.

A 31-year-old man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery.
