OREM — A man who appeared to be driving under the influence was arrested after he stopped a police officer to ask about a previous arrest for DUI.

Wednesday around 11 a.m., a 39-year-old man pulled up alongside an Orem officer who was stopped at the intersection of University Parkway and State Street, said Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards.

The man motioned for the officer to roll down his window, and with slurred speech and droopy eyes, the man said he wanted to discuss his previous arrest in Provo.

The officer agreed and told the man to pull into the University Mall parking lot and they could talk.

The man obediently began pulling out into the intersection, and stopped when the officer shouted for him to stop, as the light was red.

The officer finally got the man out of the intersection and into the parking lot where he was arrested for investigation of being under the influence of a prescription medication and unfit to drive.

He was booked into the Orem holding facility.
