A man who allegedly threw an ax at his girlfriend and child was arrested by Salt Lake City police Friday night.
About 11 p.m. the 23-year-old man got into an argument with his girlfriend outside their apartment near 1600 South and 700 West. The man choked his girlfriend until she was able to escape and to run to the door with their 1-year-old child in her arms, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
The man followed her into the apartment, damaged the phone to prevent her from calling 911 and then grabbed an ax, the report stated. The man went outside and damaged two doors, three windows and a table with the ax while screaming, "I'm going to kill everyone," according to the police report.
The man then threw the ax at his girlfriend, who was still holding their infant, the report says. She was able to step out of the way without being injured.
When police arrived, they had to use "physical force" to subdue the man and place him in handcuffs, according to the jail report.
