This year my son sent his first daughter to school in Delta. She is doing quite well. We are proud of her. The parents have received a bill from the school for $150. The principal says the school charges the parents $25 for every absence. The parents were not aware of this penalty. Even if they had been aware, they could not have avoided the absences. In any event, they could not pay this penalty and were forced to remove their daughter from public school and will now home-school her. As salt in the wound, the school district threatened to take the parents to court to collect this nonattendance fee.

I thought public education was about teaching.

Silly me.
