Finhas Habib, charged with causing a fatal accident on Bangerter Highway after he smashed into another vehicle while driving drunk, was sentenced to one to 15 years in prison Monday.

Habib, 38, previously pleaded guilty as part of a plea bargain to second-degree felony automobile homicide in connection with the death of Chad L. Hayward on April 27.

Hayward's pickup truck was struck by Habib's vehicle after Habib ran a red light in the area of 2100 South and Bangerter Highway. Two passenger in Habib's car were injured.

Police reports said Habib had bloodshot eyes, poor balance and smelled of alcohol at the time and there was an open bottle of beer in his car. Habib admitted he had been drinking earlier in the day.
