Oilfield services company Caspian Services Inc., based in Salt Lake City, said Thursday it has broken ground for construction of a marine base facility at a port on Kazakhstan's Caspian Sea coast.

The first phase is expected to be operational by November 2008. The second phase is projected to be ready by October 2009.

The $80 million project will include construction of a warehouse, office space, a water desalination plant and a fueling station.
