PROVO — Utah Valley State visits BYU today in a crosstown women's basketball battle between two teams looking to rebound from midweek defeats.

Tipoff between the 8-1 Wolverines and the 3-5 Cougars is 5 p.m. at the Marriott Center.

Both teams are coming off Wednesday losses — UVSC suffered its first loss of the season, falling 79-69 at Montana State, while BYU's current slump extended to a rare three-loss skid after the Cougars were beaten 54-52 at home by New Mexico State.

UVSC returns four starters and 13 letter-winners from last year's 15-13 squad. Leading the Wolverines are Robyn Fairbanks (22.9 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game), Sandy Marvin (20.0 ppg, 3.1 rpg) and Julie McMurray (15.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg).

Going into this week, the Cougars have only one player averaging in double-figure scoring — Mallary Carling at 13.3 points. Against NMSU, she scored a game-high 16 points.

BYU teammate Lauren Varley is just shy over averaging a double-double at 9.0 points and 9.1 rebounds a game.

BYU leads the overall series 2-0, including last year's 72-59 victory at UVSC's McKay Center.

The Wolverines are coached by former Cougar All-American Cathy Nixon, who this fall was inducted into the BYU Athletics Hall of Fame.
