CENTERVILLE Funeral services are being arranged for a teenage girl killed in a tubing accident at a local park.
Police were called to Freedom Hills Park about 9 p.m. Saturday after Kristen Findley was found unconscious. Witnesses said the girl was in the park with several other kids her age and came down a hill on an inflatable tube. Police said the hill was not designated for tubing.
"It is believed she struck her head on the ground at a point where it leveled out after a steep drop," Centerville Police Lt. Paul Child said Sunday.
Findley was flown to University Hospital, where she died.
In a statement, Findley's father eulogized Kristy as a good student who was a lifeguard and a member of the Viewmont High School swim team.
"She had many good friends, some of them suffering through the tragedy at the hill," Allen Findley said. "Our hearts and love go out to (those) who were friends, teammates, co-workers and associates of our dear daughter. We are grateful to her teachers at Viewmont High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Kristy loved seminary and we express our appreciation to her teachers.""Thanks to all for your kind comments. A great outpouring of love has come to us."
