PROVO — Grandview Hill residents in northwest Provo were in the dark for several hours Friday afternoon after a main power-line connection snapped and fell to the ground for unclear reasons, officials said.

The main line connected 1,348 homes in the community to an electrical substation (Westgate Substation), said city spokeswoman Helen Anderson.

The power failed Friday at 2:10 p.m., and engineers immediately went to work on a "switch procedure" which pulls power from another location.

"They're not sure exactly sure what caused the downed line," Anderson said. "It's being investigated."

Electricians had restored power to all residents by roughly 5 p.m.
