A Bountiful pharmacist has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison for one count of health-care fraud and two counts of making false claims to the United States.

James Ammon, 44, who previously owned the Wee Care Pharmacy, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dee Benson. The judge also imposed 36 months of supervised release, approximately $88,000 in restitution and $50,000 to pay for investigative expenses.

Prosecutors said Ammon made more than 700 false claims for expensive prescription drugs to insurance companies and government programs from 2003 through 2004.
