Did the Constitution become obsolete? Is personal liberty no longer required in our modern times? Are dictators and power-hungry demagogues a thing of the past? The ability to hunt or to defend yourself from some theoretical intruder in your home is no guarantee of personal liberty. The Constitution, defining and limiting federal authority to serve the people, no longer is our shield.

But again our political leaders will save us, crowning themselves with wisdom superior to the masses, which clamor for salvation from personal struggles. Oh, great ones, protect us from hunger. Defend us from poverty. Keep us safe! Keep us from fear! Take us in your arms, and we will give you ours. We will serve you, if thou wilt guard us.

I say, no!

Life without liberty is death.
