Ten percent of college students and 6 percent of the high-schoolers surveyed earlier this year say they spend seven or more hours a day text messaging, and 50 percent of students send and read text messages during class. It leaves some researches wondering if text messaging is an addiction. "What the research suggests is that it's not just a matter of excessive hours but actual addictive behavior," said Tamyra Pierce, an associate professor of communications and journalism at California State University-Fresno.
