Matt Martin scored 15 points and made three of four free throws in the final 30 seconds Saturday as Montana held off Air Force 59-57 in the Cougar Hispanic College Fund Challenge at Spokane, Wash.
Cameron Rundles added 13 points for the Grizzlies (4-2), who saw a 23-point second-half lead dwindle to one point in the final minutes against the Falcons (5-1).
Anwar Johnson scored a game-high 19 points for Air Force.
After Jordan Hasquet's basket gave Montana a 52-44 lead, Air Force scored seven straight, capped by Johnson's inside move to cut the UM lead to 52-51 with 1:26 left.
Rundles answered for Montana, burying a 3-pointer from the top of the key that pushed the lead back to four, 55-51, with a minute left.
Montana had raced to a 10-0 lead and led 44-21 early in the second half when Air Force started its comeback. Andrew Henke's three-point play capped a 15-0 run that pulled Air Force to within eight, 44-36, with 10:10 left.
Hasquet added 10 points and Andrew Strait had 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies.
Henke finished with 14 points for the Falcons, who shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half after hitting just 29 percent in the first half.
Both teams play again Sunday as Air Force faces ninth-ranked Washington State, the host team, and Montana meets Mississippi Valley State.
WICHITA ST. 75, WYOMING 63: At Wichita, Kan., P.J. Couisnard's 14 points and 14 rebounds led Wichita State. Along with Couisnard, Matt Braeuer added 17 points for the Shockers (3-2). Brad Jones led the Cowboys with 22 points.
Wyoming (2-2) led during the early parts of the first half until Wichita State went on a 13-0 run to take a 20-12 lead. The Cowboys never led again.
