ST. GEORGE — The Humane Society of Utah has increased the reward for information that leads to the arrest of a horse killer.

The Humane Society said the reward is now at $8,000 after an anonymous donor pledged more money to drum up leads in the case. "Crookneck," was found dead in his corral in Washington County in September.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies said the horse had been shot as many as 50 times with a small caliber weapon.

"This horse died a slow, agonizing death," Humane Society of Utah director Gene Baierschmidt said in a statement Friday.

Anyone with information about the death is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 435-656-6500 or the Humane Society of Utah at 801-261-2919.
