Leo is a mellow and affectionate 6-year-old neutered male orange tabby. He has a funny haircut at the moment because his long Persian-like locks were badly matted when he arrived, so he had to be shaved into a lion cut. Leo is a gorgeous cat who will be beautiful with weekly brushing. His adoption fee is $65.

Lucas is a 5-month-old pit bull mix. He came in need of immediate medical care, since the harness he was wearing was too small and had cut deep wounds into his flesh. Although he must have been in terrible pain, he was friendly and waggy as his injuries were examined. After being cleaned and stitched up, this darling dog is healing well and ready for a family who will love and care for him. Lucas' adoption fee is $95.

After many delays, the Salt Lake County Animal Services shelter has finally entered the second stage of the construction needed to replace the heating system under the dog kennels. While one-third of the shelter floor is new, 25 of kennels are still unavailable, leaving the shelter crowded. The shelter is appealing to pet owners again to ensure that their animals are wearing current identification, and asking that anyone who loses a pet begin checking at the shelter immediately. The sooner animals go home again, the more space to hold unwanted animals for adoption. Also, of course, if you're looking for a new furry friend, you can help out with the space crisis by taking one of the pets out of his kennel and into your home
