After having served two years in the military — one year near the end of World War II and the other following — I find myself more and more in favor of compulsory military service. These young men and women could fill the ongoing need in noncombat positions and be rewarded with some bonus or educational assistance.

The combat positions could be filled by those willing to re-enlist and those making the military a career. In my opinion, all young people would be better prepared for life
