LOGAN — Utah State finally got the monkey of its back with a 35-17 victory at New Mexico State last Saturday.

It wasn't a small monkey like the Los Angeles Angels' Rally Monkey, or even one like Curious George.

It was Kong-like.

The Aggies carried a King Kong-sized 16-game losing streak with them to Las Cruces, the longest in school history and second-longest in the nation behind Florida International, which has lost 22.

Now there's no more Florida International watch and no more jokes at being the first team to go winless since the Aggies of 1902, which went 0-4.

Saying it's a relief to win may be an understatement.

"After the game I said forgot what it felt like to win, and I think a lot of people had. Now everyone wants to get that feeling back (this week)," Utah State tight end Rob Myers said. "It's hard losing every week and taking the criticism and all that stuff. I think having this win made a world of difference. I think it's given us a lot of confidence and we want to do it again."

Utah State (1-10, 1-6) travels to Idaho, (1-10, 0-7) Saturday. The game starts at 1:30 p.m. and can be seen live on Altitude.

The Aggies have yet to win back-to-back WAC games in the two-plus years in the league, and their last back-to-back wins came at home when they beat Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee in 2003.

Even worse, the Aggies haven't won back-to-back road games since Dave Arslanian led the Aggies to wins over Nevada and North Texas in his final two games in 1999.

Utah State won four games in a row in 2000. The first was on the road, then they won two at home and then won again on the road.

MINNESOTA MOVES UP: The Gophers started the year 1-1, but they haven't won since they beat Miami (of Ohio, not the Dolphins) on Sept. 9. They now own the second-longest losing streak in the nation at 10. Southern Methodist and Idaho have lost nine straight.

ONE-WIN WONDERS: Utah State, Minnesota, Idaho, Southern Methodist, Duke and North Texas are the only teams in the nation with one victory.

MORE ON IDAHO: Since winning their first three league games over Utah State, New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech in 2006, the Vandals have yet to win another league games. Dating back to their Oct. 21, 2006, loss to Boise State, the Vandals have lost 12 straight league contests.

Idaho, Florida International and Baylor own the second-longest conference losing streaks behind Duke's 24 straight ACC losses.

ROBINSON WATCH: Kevin Robinson is ranked first in the WAC and seventh in the nation in all-purpose yards at 197.7 yards per game and is second in the WAC and third in the nation in punt return yards (18.9 yards per return).
