LEHI — Police here have recovered some stolen snowmobiles and arrested a man who was already in jail on another case.

A trailer with three snowmobiles was reported missing from the parking lot of J&M Steel Solutions in Lehi on Sept. 18. Ten days later Provo authorities recovered the trailer abandoned in a Provo church parking lot, according to a 4th District Court affidavit.

An Orem officer heard about the case and thought the theft looked similar to the work of a man he had already been investigating.

About two weeks after finding the snow toys, the Orem officer walked into the county jail Oct. 9, read the man his rights and got a confession, according to the affidavit.

"He described the trailer, the snowmobiles and where he dropped off the trailer," the affidavit stated.

A month later, on Nov. 13, the man again allegedly confessed, but this time to Lehi officers, the affidavit said. He "confirmed that he had taken the trailer. ... He had a problem with a tire on the trailer and had to leave it at the church until he could fix it," according to the same affidavit.

The man has been booked in Utah County Jail seven times in the last seven years.

His bond or cash bail is set at $3,000 and a hearing is set for Wednesday on suspicion of a first-degree felony.
