A 13-year-old gang member was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday morning after he and two other teens were attacked by adults from a rival gang.

The adults saw the teens walking away from a house party about 2:30 a.m. near Redwood Road and California Avenue, according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Dave Hoffman. The adult group pulled over and assaulted the teens using a brick.

Hoffman did not know whether any of the teens had weapons when they were attacked but said they will likely not face charges in relation to the incident.

Sunday morning, two adults were taken into police custody in relation to the fight.

It's not unusual for adult gang members to fight with youths from rival gangs, Hoffman said. Gang members generally do not differentiate between teens and adults, he said.

Members of the Salt Lake City Gang Task Force investigated the fight's circumstances through the night, Hoffman said. The names of the adults and the name of the injured juvenile have not been released.
