PROVO — A car chase from 10600 South in Salt Lake County to Orem in Utah County wasn't caused by an irate driver or a fleeing felon but a medical problem.

A 40-year-old man began driving erratically and swerving between lanes around 4:30 Friday afternoon, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.

There were no available troopers to stop the man until he got over Point of the Mountain into Utah County.

Around Lehi, a UHP trooper got behind the car and followed, lights and sirens blazing, Roden said.

The driver was doing about 80 mph but didn't pull over until he was almost to Provo.

After the officer pulled him over, he learned the man was having a diabetic problem and called for medical help, Roden said.

The man was treated at the scene then released.
