CEDAR CITY Julie McMurray matched a career high with 23 points and set a school record with seven steals as Utah Valley moved to 3-0 for the first time in school history with a 75-55 win over Southern Utah on Thursday.
Sandy Marvin had 21 points including 15 in the first half as UV built a 42-20 halftime lead and coasted to the win, their first at Southern Utah (1-2) in three tries.
"Her intensity on both ends was a catalyst for us getting some good transition opportunities," said head coach Cathy Nixon of Marvin. "This was an important step for us coming in here and getting a big win on the road." Utah Valley trailed just once in the ballgame, 2-0, before Marvin rattled off seven straight points to give the Wolverines the lead for good. Robyn Fairbanks chipped in 13 points while Rebekah Peterson added 10.
Anne Westwood, SUU's top scorer coming in, was held to just six points but had 18 rebounds. Caitlyn Sears led the T-Birds with 13 points.
Up next for Utah Valley is UC Irvine on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. in the McKay Center.
