The annual Trolley Square tree-lighting celebration will kick off a flurry of holiday festivities at the newly renovated mall at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
City officials, shoppers, local residents and carolers will gather by the Trolley water tower as a 45-foot-tall Christmas tree and dozens of decorated trees along the north plaza are lit simultaneously.
Salt Lake City Mayor-elect Ralph Becker will offer holiday tidings and flip the switch to illuminate Trolley Square. Carols sung by the East High Madrigal Choir will accompany the tree-lighting event. Inside the mall, Williams Sonoma will serve free mulled cider.
