A gravel spill on I-15 caused a headache for some commuters in the south end of Salt Lake County this morning.

About 8:15 a.m., a dump truck started spilling gravel on northbound I-15 between 9800 South and 9400 South. The truck pulled over after the driver realized what was happening, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Nigbur.

How the gravel spilled was being investigated this morning.

A sweeper from the Department of Transportation was brought out to clean up the mess. Most of the freeway lanes in the area were shut down for about an hour.

The freeway was completely reopened at about 9:20 a.m.
