UTAH STATE PRISON A man convicted of beating his wife to death inside their Layton home will not have his first parole hearing until 2031.
The Utah Board of Pardons' decision sets Richard Stuart Carlson's original parole hearing for February 2031.
Carlson, 53, pleaded guilty to the 2006 murder of his wife, Joanne. Davis County prosecutors said that on the day she died, the Carlsons' son heard cries for help, looked into his parents' bedroom and saw Richard Carlson putting a pillow over her face.
Police said Joanne Carlson had been beaten, suffocated and then her body was dumped into a bathtub of cold water. She died at a hospital the next day.
Carlson has never said why he killed his wife.
