UTAH STATE PRISON — A man convicted of killing his mother-in-law in her Magna home will not appear before the parole board again until 2026.

Wally Frank Ortiz, who was convicted in the murder of Jeanette Martinez, was given a December 2026 hearing date by the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.

Ortiz also has been ordered by the parole board to pay $29,215 in restitution to his victim's family.

Deseret Morning News archives of the slaying said that Ortiz tied Martinez to a chair, beat her repeatedly and then stabbed her 29 times, leaving her to bleed to death.
