"Bee Movie" stung "American Gangster" at the box office over the weekend, gathering in receipts of $26 million to buzz past the Denzel Washington/Russell Crowe crime flick, which still pulled in a healthy $24.3 million.

The flight of the bumblebee to the top spot reversed last week's results, when "Gangster" copped the lead while "Bee Movie," an animated comedy from Dreamworks-Paramount starring Jerry Seinfeld, came in second.

"Bee Movie" could thank big matinee audiences for pushing it past "American Gangster," but "Gangster" still leads in overall box office, taking in a total of $80.7 million to "Bee Movie's" $72.2 million.
