Final Layton 28, American Fork 14: For the first time since 1978, the Layton Lancers will play for a football state championship. American Fork came flying out of the gates early and jumped out to a 7-0 lead. However, the Lancers leveled the score in the second quarter, and they took permanent control in the third. Layton QB Gavin Green scored first for the Lancers after halftime off what was a sensational touchdown run. From the 49-yard line, Green first avoided a sack, scrambled backwards into an opening on the right, zig-zaged all the way to the left and then raced into the endzone. It was by far the most spectacular play of the semifinal games at Rice-Eccles Stadium and will likely be hte most memorable play of the entire 5A tournament. Green finished with 66 yards and one TD on the ground and 106 yards and one TD through the air. American Fork, playing without four starters, turned in a phenomenal effort but came up short. Wide receiver Jake Murphy led the way with 79 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Final Alta 21, Bingham 17: The monkey has officially been taken off Alta High's back. After coming up short against Bingham on four previous occasions, the Hawks came up with the goods this afternoon. Alta QB roamed around for a 24-yard loss to kill the clock on fourth down at the end. Might be the best negative 24-yard play Alta High or anyone else has ever had.

Final Judge Memorial 49, Union 20: The Bulldogs are headed to the 3A state championship game. Unlike their first encounter earlier this season, Judge made sure Union didn't get on track in the second half. Union QB Rhen Richard threw for lots of yards, but turnovers and mistakes ultimately doomed the Cougars. Meanwhile, Judge's exceptional rushing attack was outstanding. The Bulldogs will face another great passing team next Friday in the title game, as they will face top-ranked Logan at 6 p.m. inside Rice-Eccles Stadium.
