Dear Heloise: I have a hint for making reminders for various things I need to do. When I'm at work and need to remember to do something at home, I call my home phone and leave a message on the answering machine.

Also, when I'm home and need to remember to do something at work, I call my work number and leave a message on my voice mail. It works! And it's much easier than writing notes that are lost and forgotten at the bottom of my purse. —Shirley, Columbia, Md.

And you also can leave messages on your cell phone! —Heloise

Dear Readers: Here are a few handy ways to use fingernail polish:

— Color-code tools.

— Mark medicine caps so that they are easy to see when they line up.

— Mark a light switch that needs to stay on, like the attic fan.

— Use to more easily see measurement amounts on cups, bowls, etc.

— Use to temporarily cover a scratch on an appliance, if you have the right matching color. Dear Heloise: I like to try different shampoos. When I get one that I don't like, rather than throwing it away, I use it in the shower as a body wash. Works great.
