Nilsa Carter was appointed Tuesday as the new associate director of the Salt Lake County Department of Community Services.
The department manages several aspects of county government, including the county's arts facilities, the parks and recreation division, the convention and visitor's bureau and the Zoo, Arts and Parks program.
Carter previously served as an equal employment opportunity specialist for the U.S. Department of Interior, and as senior director for Colors of Success, a school-based prevention and intervention program offered to youths and families who reside within the boundaries of the Salt Lake and Ogden School districts. Carter holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications, with a minor in Spanish, from the University of Utah.
"I'm thrilled for this opportunity to promote Salt Lake County's programs and services," Carter said. "I'm looking forward to learning from my colleagues as we strive to serve the community."
