KEARNS — A two-alarm house fire with heavy smoke and spectacular flames caused about $50,000 damage to a home near 4400 South and 5200 West Thursday.

The blaze started about 5:40 p.m. Firefighters were nearby and were able to put it out within about 20 minutes, said United Fire Authority spokesman Shirl White. The occupants of the home were able to escape without injury.

Officials believe the fire started in the basement, White said.
