OREM — A man was lucky to walk away with scrapes and bruises Thursday after his truck rolled several times across all lanes of traffic on I-15.

The man, 21, from Lehi, was traveling north on I-15 Thursday morning when traffic around 1600 North in Orem began to slow.

Because he had been following the car in front of him too closely, he had to slam on the brakes and swerve into the next lane to avoid hitting the car, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Sheldon Riches.

The man then overcorrected and slammed his truck into the far left barrier, causing the truck to ricochet over to the right barrier and roll twice, across all lanes of traffic, Riches said.

The bed of the truck flew across the concrete barrier and landed in the southbound HOV lane.

All four lanes of I-15 northbound were shut for about 10 minutes, Riches said.

The man, who was cited for following too closely and not wearing a seat belt, had minor injuries and was taken to American Fork Hospital. No other cars were involved in the crash.
