PROVO — George Osmond, patriarch of the famous singing Osmond family, will be laid to rest today following a private family viewing and funeral service.

Mr. Osmond died at his home Tuesday of natural causes. He was 90.

The Osmond family, of which there more than 100, carried through with plans to appear on the "Oprah Winfrey Show," which will air today at 4 p.m. on KUTV Channel 2. A portion of the show will be a tribute to Mr. Osmond's life and legacy.

Donny Osmond said the family chose to appear on the show, thus allowing thousands of Osmond fans across the nation the opportunity to grieve and pay respects to their father and to let the family share their thoughts with viewers in a sort of broadcast eulogy.

Marie Osmond will be back on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" Monday to continue through another round of competition. She dedicated one of her dances last Monday to her father, noting that her parents as newlyweds danced to earn money on which to live.

The family flew home late Thursday.

"The family has chosen to hold private services," said Kevin Sasaki, family spokesman.

The funeral will be held at the Oakhills LDS Stake Center, 925 E. North Temple Drive, Provo. A viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo.
