Whatever happened to Yankee ingenuity? Here we are faced with an energy crisis, and the only solutions to come forth are windmills and corn alcohol — neither of which will solve the problem.

Here is one suggestion: Make coke of the millions of tons of coal firing our electric plants. Capturing the benzene released would provide ample fuel for our cars and trucks, the ammonia produced would fertilize our farmlands and use the coke to fuel our electric plants.

Not explored: The possibility of making hydrogen using atmospheric electricity or splitting water to make hydrogen with sunlight.

Come on, let's have some imaginative thinking. We can find better means of meeting our energy needs.
