The Bingham Canyon Mine visitors center at Kennecott will close for the winter on Nov. 4.
Because the visitors center is located 6,340 feet above sea level, it will be closed until April, when road and weather conditions improve. The visitor center museum, which is near 12300 South and 8400 West in Copperton, features views and information about the 2.5-mile-wide Bingham Canyon Mine. The museum is normally open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
Proceeds from the entrance fees to the mine and visitors center are annually donated to local charities in the Salt Lake Valley. More information on the mine and visitors center can be found at www.kennecott.com.
