Bountiful's Garrett Clegg, who has played part-time on the Nationwide Tour this year, advanced in the first-stage qualifying, which ended Friday at the Dayton Valley Country Club. He finished in a tie for 12th place at 280 to advance by three shots.

Utah Open champion Clay Ogden looked like a sure bet to qualify for the second stage, but after three straight 69s, he shot a 77 in the final round and missed qualifying by one shot at 284. Coming in, he bogeyed No. 16 and also made a bogey-6 on the final hole.

Draper's Ryan Ellis shot 288 and missed by five shots, while Sandy's Luke Swilor finished at 290 in a tie for 53rd place.

Others Utahns included Sandy's Shawn Edwards, who finished at 301 and former BYU golfer Nick Becker of Boise who finished at 302.
