WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The BYU women's basketball team will play two exhibition games next week. On Tuesday, the Cougars host instate foe Westminster at 7 p.m., followed by a game on Nov. 3 against Eastern Oregon at 5 p.m.
VOLLEYBALL: The BYU women served up an easy victory over Air Force at the Smith Fieldhouse Friday night. The Cougars recorded a season-high 13 service aces en route to a 3-0 (30-19, 30-13, 30-15) sweep against the Falcons.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah State all-American Jaycee Carroll has been named one of the top 50 preseason candidates for the 2007-08 John R. Wooden Award, the nation's most coveted college basketball award. The preseason candidates were announced earlier this week. Carroll, a 6-foot-2 senior guard from Evanston, Wyo., is one of just two players from the Western Athletic Conference, along with Nevada's Marcelus Kemp, to be named to the list. Earlier this year, Carroll was voted as the WAC's preseason player of the year by both the coaches and media, and was listed as one of the top 15 seniors in the nation by SportsIllustrated.com and a first-team high-major All-American by Collegehoops.net.
SOCCER: After relinquishing its 2-0 halftime lead early in the second half, Utah State bounced back with a goal and held on for a 3-2 win over Hawaii Friday afternoon. The Aggies dealt the Rainbow Wahine their first WAC loss as they beat Hawaii for the third-straight year. The Aggies improved to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in WAC play.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah fans will have an opportunity to see the Runnin' Utes in action prior to the exhibition opener. Utah will hold an intrasquad scrimmage today at 5 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The scrimmage is open to the public and will likely last an hour. Utah plays Montana Tech in an exhibition game on Wednesay at 7 p.m. in the Huntsman Center.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: KALL 700 Sports and KZNS (1280 The Zone) will team up to broadcast all 30 games of the 2007-08 season. In addition to the 30-game regular-season schedule, the Mountain West Conference tournament will also air live from Las Vegas on 700AM.
SOCCER: The University of Utah women's soccer team lost for the first time in 14 matches, dropping a 3-0 road decision Friday to TCU. The shutout was the first time Utah has gone without scoring in back-to-back contests since the final two contests of the 2005 season.
VOLLEYBALL: Led by Lori Baird's 13 kills, the Utah volleyball team earned its second straight sweep with a 3-0 win over Wyoming, 31-29, 30-28, 31-29. Utah improves to 9-11 overall and 5-5 in the MWC. The Utes host Air Force today.
