TAYLORSVILLE — A crash that resulted in asphalt being dumped onto 3400 West at about 2 p.m. Tuesday also sent a dump-truck driver and a 17-year-old to local hospitals in serious condition.

The five-vehicle crash happened while a black Honda Civic and a silver Honda Civic raced on 5400 South near its intersection with 3400 West, according to Taylorsville Police Sgt. Rosie Rivera. The silver car hit a semi-tractor, then spun out of control and hit the dump truck, which overturned. The silver car then spun into oncoming traffic and hit a full-size truck.

Meanwhile, debris from the crash flew into an eastbound sport utility vehicle.

One of the alleged racers fled the scene but soon returned and cooperated with police.

The 17-year-old driver of the silver car was hospitalized, along with the dump-truck driver. By Tuesday evening, a police investigation into the crash hadn't been completed and no charges had been filed.
