There was a time when it was felt that an educated electorate was essential to a strong, free country. Public education was established, and it was agreed that it should be funded from tax money. I am not as afraid of the lower-income person wanting access to education and health care as an entitlement as I am afraid of a growing attitude that wealth is an entitlement, that it is more important for the wealthy person to have a castle on the hill than for a low-income, full-time employed person to be able to afford even a small house in the valley.
