USU/Weber State

VOLLEYBALL: Amanda Nielson continued her impressive play Tuesday night, recording a season-high 31 kills and a career-high 22 digs to lead Utah State's volleyball team to a five-game win (30-19, 30-24, 27-30, 28-30, 15-8) against Weber State. Utah State improved to 12-10 on the season with the win, while Weber State fell to 9-11 overall with the loss. USU has now won 10 of its last 14 matches since starting the season with a 2-6 record. Nielson, a senior opposite side hitter from West Valley City (Granger HS), has now recorded at least 20 kills in each of her last three matches.


GOLF: Dustin Pimm led the Utes with a team-low 73 on Tuesday to close the Sycuan Invitational in El Cajon, Calif. Pimm, who finished at 10-over-par, tied for 22nd place. Nic Larson posted a 74 Tuesday to tied for 33rd at 12-over. The team maintained its ninth-place standing from Monday, finishing the tournament at 47-over-par. Wichita State rallied to win the team title, finishing at 20-over par.


SOCCER: The No. 21 BYU women's soccer team (12-2-2, 2-2-0) travels to Wyoming (7-8-0, 2-2-0) on Thursday and then hosts New Mexico (7-4-3, 1-2-1) on Saturday for Senior Night. Saturday's match will be BYU's last home match before the conference tournament Nov. 7-10 in Provo.

Southern Utah

SOCCER: Southern Utah will get its second chance to snap a winless streak against Utah Valley State when the Wolverines visit Cedar City on Saturday. The two teams played to a double-overtime draw in their first meeting despite the Thunderbirds outshooting UVSC 22 to 14. Following Saturday's game, SUU will wrap up the Summit League regular season by hosting IUPUI and North Dakota State.

Utah Valley

GOLF: Utah Valley junior Nick Neal shot a final-round 73 to finish 4-over and in a tie for 21st at the Santa Clara Invitational at Silver Creek Golf Course in San Jose, Calif. The Wolverines finished 13th overall after shooting a team score of 301, matching Monday's first round total, two shots behind Loyola College and 21 shots in front of Idaho State.

Dixie State

FOOTBALL: Dixie linebacker Teddy Owens has been named Independent defensive player of the week. Owens, a junior from Pleasant Grove, had five solo tackles with nine assists and recovered a fumble in Dixie's 17-10 win over Humboldt State.
