A transient man who led officers on a high-speed chase in West Valley City last month is now facing a felony charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The felony count was filed Friday against 43-year-old Robert Preece, who was accused of stealing at least one vehicle and robbing a convenience store, a shoe store, two gas stations, a check-cashing business and a sandwich shop. Police had to use a helicopter and several trained dogs in order to take him into custody.
Preece was charged in state court with felony aggravated robbery and failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop. Friday's federal charge carries up to five years in federal prison.
