In response to the letters critical of Mayor Rocky Anderson's campaign against bottled water and disposable plastic waste, I for one would like to express my wholehearted support and appreciation for the effort. As an anti-waste advocate both in Salt Lake City and in other countries, I can attest that the problem that Anderson is tackling is truly daunting and global in scale. The campaign is urgent and long overdue. Those attacking it appear not to be informed. Rather, they appear motivated by an ideological opposition to the effort simply because Anderson leads it. Others seem bothered by the fact that there is so much else the mayor could do. But we must begin somewhere. Efforts that are important and justified on their own merits should be supported, regardless of who starts them.
