BYU (3-2, 2-0) at UNLV (2-4, 1-1)

Partly cloudy in the day with a low of 60 degrees at night.

Today, 7:30 p.m. — Sam Boyd Stadium (36,800, TurfTech surface) — Las Vegas

TV: The mtn. (Comcast Ch. 37)

Radio: 1160AM, 102.7FM

PLAYER TO WATCH

BEAU BELL, LB: On the Butkus Watch list, Bell has recorded double-figure tackles in four of six games this season. He leads the MWC and ranks tied for 25th in the NCAA in tackles per game with 10.2. Bell also is tied for sixth nationally and leads the MWC with three forced fumbles.

KEY MATCHUP

FRANK SUMMERS vs. BYU LINEBACKERS: Nicknamed "The Tank," the former Cal recruit and junior college all-American had 190 yards rushing against Utah, 120 against Nevada and 100 against Air Force.

THE STAKES

For BYU ... The Cougars need to keep winning on the road. Going undefeated on the road and at home would solidify Bronco Mendenhall's current win streak in Mountain West Conference play.

For UNLV ... Looking for credibility and an exit from the MWC cellar, the Rebels have scheduled seven potential bowl teams, including the Cougars. Bringing down BYU in Sam Boyd Stadium would give the Rebels a significant boost.

THE TRENDS

For BYU ... The Cougars are riding a two-game win streak in which they scored 31 points in each game. BYU is looking for its ninth straight league road win, which would put the Cougars one away from the record set by Utah.

For UNLV ... The Rebels will try to end a two-game losing streak after setbacks at Nevada (27-20) and Air Force (31-14). UNLV's last win was a 27-0 shutout of Utah on Sept. 22.

THE EDGE

BYU will win if ... the Cougars hold on to the ball, sustain long scoring drives and make the Rebels one-dimensional on offense with the pass or run.

UNLV will win if ... Summers gets untracked, allowing play-action and the option to work against the BYU defense. UNLV needs to get 3-4 turnovers.
